We got our Advent wreath the first Christmas we were married and have given more than one as gifts over the years, including to DH's Presbyterian family. My MIL and FIL tend to use red candles in theirs too....Dr. Laura Marie Grimeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10372741914558791844noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13173725.post-44521125721031464252007-12-14T21:09:00.000-06:002007-12-14T21:09:00.000-06:00Well played!Well played!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13173725.post-3005398310083137842007-12-14T21:05:00.000-06:002007-12-14T21:05:00.000-06:00Good post. Growing up and always having the Advent wreath and the lighting of the Advent calendars, the strong music of the season and I thought ALL Christian churches followed the same church calendar. Sure was a surprise here to learn you didn't know what the Advent wreath was. Isn't it a beautiful rite though - so much excitement, so much anticipation as we get ready to celebrate the birth of Christ. We had our St. Lucia program (and potluck dinner -very good and I ate way too much too) this past Sunday. For our church, with its roots being the Swedish immigrants who came here in the 1880's and settled in to work as coal miners for the most part, celebrating the Festival of Light in honor of St. Lucia is just one of the ethnic celebrations our church has and I love the pageant as much as the dinner!Jenihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16425701332785470116noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13173725.post-7047670698618556432007-12-14T18:33:00.000-06:002007-12-14T18:33:00.000-06:00Transplanting from Virginia to Maine, my experienc...Transplanting from Virginia to Maine, my experience is similar. My first winter in the northeast during seminary, I felt much the same way about spring - I hadn't realized how gloomy the winter had been until the bright colors of the tulips & crocuses started popping up. It really made me appreciate it.Rev Kimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04441988001400641628noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13173725.post-713223327200996102007-12-14T15:21:00.000-06:002007-12-14T15:21:00.000-06:00The smell of cookies baking...wonderful.I am alway...The smell of cookies baking...wonderful.

I am always interested in other churches practices and traditions.
