While I do...you have taken on a difficult subject. While I do not agree with all you say, I do agree we need to be civil, and work together to get this craziness to stop. As of June 5th 2017 things aren't much better.
Bob Millsapshttp://folcc.orgnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13173725.post-69743418935571669892016-10-14T08:21:00.634-05:002016-10-14T08:21:00.634-05:00Hello, my dear friend, Mary. I spent about ten years scrambling to stay employed so that I wouldn't become homeless. My only possible health insurance was the prayer to stay healthy. I learned early on that my mild asthma and a benign heart murmur placed me in the risk pool, which priced insurance hopelessly out of my reach (as in, it would have taken well over half my take-home income--when I was working full-time, that is--for the monthly premium).

A friend who often prayed with me for my work situation aged into Medicare about the same time as the ACA took effect. She sounded off to me one day about how disastrous the ACA was proving to be. She said she was having to wait almost a month to get an appointment with her PCP, and complained that thanks to "Obamacare," she and her husband might have to get a different doctor. Besides resenting her tax dollars going to pay for free-loaders' insurance once mandatory coverage went into effect, she was incensed that there were going to be too many people insured for the number of available providers. Here I was, her friend, still without health coverage, not yet working for a sponsoring employer, and she was essentially telling me that people in my situation needed to stay uninsured so that she wouldn't be inconvenienced. She capped it off by wondering when people were going to stop mooching off government for their healthcare and just take financial responsibility. While receiving Medicare . . .

I wonder if she ever noticed how I would change the subject whenever she started talking about the ACA. Given that we're in Texas, the topic came up negatively and often.

Thank you for fighting the good fight, my friend. At the end of the day, it's about getting as many people as possible the healthcare they need. Too many have had their health deteriorate, or have even died, unnecessarily for lack of insurance coverage.

Mary RardenAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13173725.post-12575912713618644892016-10-01T16:44:38.590-05:002016-10-01T16:44:38.590-05:00Very well said Dorcas! I have wondered if a big part of it is because there are so many baby-boomer senior citizens. We watch more cable TV and are getting grumpier with age. The good earning years are behind us and options are often limited. There are so many of us that we have a big influence on the current mood of the country and I'm afraid we are not helping the national conversation.

Wayne and I are active in two car clubs and one camping club. I am a quilter and have many quilting girlfriends. i also am a registered tax preparer. I hear many similar conversations that you described. I am flummoxed.

I'm sorry to say that I think this angry, paranoid phase of entitlement is going to last as long as we do. Lindanoreply@blogger.com
