A Grumpy Friday Five

I gues I'm not the only grumpy Rev Gal.
Will Smama invites us to get it out of our systems now so we can enjoy the onset of Advent. She says, "For those of you with a more positive attitude, have no fear. I am sure more sacred and reverent Friday Fives will follow." I think she is probably right, but for now, here are her "grumpy" questions--all in good fun: Please tell us your least favorite/most annoying seasonal....

1) dessert/cookie/family food
Fruit cake. My mom used to send them to us when she still lived in Texas. Does anyone actually like fruit cake? I also hate that sickeningly sweet, frothy Christmas treat known as "Divinity." Bleech!

2) beverage
Egg Nog. Too too too sweet. If I can dilute it about half and half with milk I can tolerate it.

3) tradition
I love Christmas traditions. I can't honestly think of one I do not like...at least not at the moment.

4) decoration
We had an ugly red star atop our tree for some time that looked just like the above picture. A year or so ago we replaced it (finally!) with an angel. I'd like a nice star, but I can't find one.

5) gift (received or given)
See question number one. Then there was that time I got socks, and the time....oh never mind...

BONUS: SONG/CD that makes you want to tell the elves where to stick it.
Jingle Bells. That is THE MOST OVERPLAYED SONG in the world!

The Jingle Bells are worse when they rock. Just my humble opinion.

I'm chuckling a little at the red-light star. Seems like it might be festive in another district?

Barenaked Ladies' version of JB is the only JB I listen to... only because they put in all of the stupid words... otherwise, I am right there with Songbird!

Seems if the wisemen had been following that star they'd have come lots sooner....

what I want to know is, why should you have to dilute ANYTHING to enjoy it? Except with vodka?

(if you aren't a drinker, forgive me...I'll take the vodka diluted stuff off your hands!) ;)

Laughing because I've specifically ASKED FOR socks, for two years in a row! (The Sock Gnome in my home mysteriously makes off with one of each pair over the year, leaving me pretty much sockless by the time cold weather rolls around again.)

There's nothing like a pair of hand-knitted socks, made from wool or silk yarn. But store-bought socks? No thanks. :-)

Good play!

Yes, and Jingle Bells isn't even a Christmas song--really, it's not!

Good divinity, though, is really good. As is good fruit cake, although that is hard to find.

{Sigh} I'm feeling grumpy but not about fruitcake. I make 2 different kinds to give as gifts each year. Guess who *won't* be included!!!

Right now I'm getting very, very, very, very, very, very sick of the "Carol of the Bells" since every TV ad is using it this year. Blech. I love that carol but not this year.

I like good fruitcake (especially wrapped in marzipan). As for eggnog (or soynog, in my case) as long as there's enough brandy, I don't mind it at all!
