RevGals Friday Five: Snow

1) Snow: love it or hate it?
I love it. I just got home from Christmas shopping and the sun is sparkling on the snow--more coming tomorrow. I hate driving in it, and I hate shoveling it, and I hate it a LOT in March. But for now, I love it. Beautiful!

2) First snow memory
I grew up in Los Angeles. In the winter, Angelinos "go to the snow." That means heading for the mountains for a day of some fun with sleds and snow fights. My first snow memory is doing just that with my family, winding up into the San Gabriel Mountains.

3) Best Snow Day ever (actual or imagined)
Imagined, up in the aforementioned mountains, pine trees, plenty of food, roaring fire, a few games, no t.v. but a c.d. player and some good c.d.s, my husband...and then we get snowed in for a week and can't come home.

4) Best use of snow in a movie, song, book or poem.
Robert Frost's "Through the Woods on a Snowy Evening"....or isn't that quite the right name?

5) What you are planning to do today, with or without snow.
I just did it. I shoveled snow and then worked at the church a bit and then took my mother shopping. Later I'm heading north for a night in a motel (hopefully one with a hot tub and/or pool) with a friend. Our husbands are out snow camping and hunting with muzzleloaders along with other men from church. We decided it was a good time for some relaxing and then a morning of shopping tomorrow a.m.

Hi, SingingOwl!

Your online handle is so familiar...by chance did you ever post on the About.com Christianity forums many years ago, or on a women's spirituality forum (whose name now escapes me)? Long ago and far away my name was Hypatia.

Welcome to the RevGalBlogPals, BTW.

LutheranChik (Hypatia), I cannot tell you how glad I am to "see" you! It was at ivillage, and I forget the name of the forum, but Shane was there, and ruthiebr8, and greyeagle...and then...oh...I will write to you when I have a moment, but I have NEVER FORGOTTEN you...and seeing your name here was like finding a long-lost friend. Ruthie and I searched for you. More later... :-D

And I recall a little post from Hypatia...something about setting up a stepladder pulpit in the garage as a symbol of sisterly solidarity regarding preaching...I think I had shared something with you guys about needing to explore pastoring possibilities or something. Hypatia, I was a clergywoman without a pulpit in those days -- I was not pastoring a church. The forum (it just came to me) was "Religion and Spirituality." Then it became "Sprituality" and then it morphed and became a new age forum, mostly....and all these years later I still think of and pray for some of those women. That forum was SO fun in it's first days.

I, too, am snow-deprived, having been raised in Pasadena, California. I was born in northeastern Indiana, however, and always remembered the snow and the cold with fondness. My dad wanted to move to California "for his health," which I never understood as I suffered through pea-soup-thick smog with watering eyes and lung-sucking, oxygen-deprived, misery. Anyway, I'm back in the Midwest and happy as a clam.
