Lenten Prayer #17 For Victory Over Evil

Luke 10:17-20   The seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.”   Jesus  replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.  I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.  However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

Psalm 68:1  May God arise, may his enemies be scattered; may his foes flee before him.

God of Goodness, let us be more thrilled about the rise of Christ to glory than we are by the downfall of evil.  Help us not to wage vigilante warfare in our own strength or about our own pet ideas of what is "right."  May we walk in your truth, loving justice and acting in your authority.  Rise, O Lord, and break the grip of dark powers that hold captive the ones you came to save.  Amen
