Feeling a Bit...Overwhelmed

This isn't me, but I know how she feels.

My husband had knee surgery yesterday. He is home and doing fine, snuggled under a blanket watching videos, leg up, iced and mostly immobile. My mother continues with a cough that won't quit and a painful case of shingles that won't...um...unshingle. The cat has an ever-worsening case of bizarre lesions on her poor little balding face. Significant members of our worship team will not be present on Sunday, so we need a plan. I'm still trying to figure out a sermon for this week. I need to prepare for mid-week Bible study tonight. Our vacation begins next Tuesday, and the nice friend/minister who was going to preach just called to (very apologetically) cancel due to a family crisis. My neice, who was going to take mom for a week while we are vacationing has had unexpected changes in the family schedule and will not be able to take "Grandmommy" till August. The car is making a funny noise. I've caught a chest cold and do not feel too well.

I'm off to call the vet (yet again), and then my mother's doctor. Then I'll try to call the district and see who I might get to preach next week. After that I'll call the social worker at the hospital and then....I'm not sure what to do.

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me...I can...I can...I can...I can..."

We usually have lay people preach when the pastor is going to be gone. Been there, done that.

Well. Thanks Dorcas.
You sure put my problems in perspective for me!
I'm imagining you dealing with all that and I am praying for solutions for you. love, Maureen

Holy Moly woman but you're having a tough time! Sometimes it's better to be the sick one than the only healthy one left standing, isn't it?

My goodness...I'll keep you all in my prayers.

What a crazy busy week. I hope you find a few moments to just chill as this stuff works itself through.

And by the way, I was really moved by your vigil for life post. I am glad you figured out the comments thing because I really want to thank you for posting it.

Love,
Rachel

Poor dear! You're in my prayers. I didn't know your husband was having surgery. Ouch! And your mom and your kitty and you and the schedule...Oh, dear Lord, please ease my sister's load.

I'd offer to come preach for you, seeing as how I'm off next Sunday, but even if I could afford the trip, I doubt your congregation would much welcome a boring' ol' Methodist laywoman in your pulpit. (tee-hee!)

My prayers are with you as well. I'd offer to fill in for you, but I filled in for a friend once in a Sunday School class, and almost got her kicked out for my lesson on the Gospel of Aerosmith. She still hasn't completely lived it down.

Thanks to everyone for the prayer! Still working on most of it.
:-(

Psalmist, my congrgation would be happy to welcome another INFP lady preacher. There is no way you are boring. It's not like I jump the pews or something. LOL Why, they'd hardly know I was gone.

What do you know, Psalmist is too far away, and Nightmare--who could actually make the trip over would be doing a Steve Tyler imitation or something! (Nightmare, my congregation might be just fine with the Gospel of Aerosmith, actually. ;-)

Back to the telephone for me.

*tries to get a mental image of the Owl jumping the pews...nah, not happening*

LOL! Seriously, though, how is your DH doing, how are you feeling, and are you seeing things happening? Sure am praying so, dear one.

I could just flap my wings and fly over! :-)

A small update: I have lined up companion care for an hour in the a.m. (much to mom's chagrin) and sweet church ladies in the evening. Still working on meals-on-wheels for a luchtime check. For this week we are singing to c.d.s. We've done it before. Better than no music. DH is preaching, probably from a chair. I am still working on next week, not only the fill-in preacher but other issues. Mom is feeling some better, as am I. The cat has a horrible bloody and oozing sore on top of her head, but is now on a different antibiotic and steroids for the next ten days. We'll see.
