The sensible me says that I should, considering my difficult beginning in life, rejoice that I can walk. I do, oh I truly do. I am also very glad to have this footwear. It is important that I not end up with terrible arthritis in my feet and that I walk with more stability and less pain than is possible otherwise. I love my braces and shoes, and I thank God for them. Of course.
Ahem.
The woman-who-loves shoes me says I hate these ugly monstrosities. The braces are hard plastic, which is not so bad in winter when I can put them on over a pair of thick socks, but is quite another thing is warm weather. (It is the one and only thing I dislike about warmer weather.) That woman also whines that it is impossible not to spoil the look of even the cutest or classiest outfit with those clumpy shoes. It's true. Shoes can change the entire look.
Once in a while, I rebel. I know I will pay for it later (especially if I do it more than once), but I do sometimes don still-sensible-and-flat-but-less-ugly footwear. Sigh. "Vanity of vanities, all is vanity," saith the Preacher. So at the Festival of Hommies next week I will usually be sensible and wear the shoes I should wear. But I will occasionally wear these. Had to show you.
And here is my new kinda red spring purse. The Rev Gals and Pals who will be attending also will be able to pick me out of the crowd, don't you think? :-D Or you suppose red purses will be the order of the day for clergywomen? Uh oh.

Yay for shoe-blogging!
I love the shoes and the bag, but it is YOU I can't wait to see!
Well, I wear sensible shoes too, but maybe not quite as sensible as yours. But there are the white walking athletic shoes in summer and the black boots in winter, both with orthotics inserted. That's about it.
Yay for shoe-blogging!! I LOVE the bag too.
I can't wait to meet you next week!! I can hardly sleep at night I'm so excited!
My hubby had the same kind of braces when he was more mobile. His went a bit higher up his calf, but otherwise they were the same. They were really helpful.
(J) would kill to be able to wear a shoe on her left foot again, ever. So, from that perspective they are as cute as they can be.
I think all RevGals should get red purses for the Festival. Then you can always spot one another from afar! :)
In my younger days, I used to wear shoes that were vogue and still within my price range. The past five years though has seen a big change in my shoe wardrobe -clogs, the slip-on sandals (no thongs)and very comfortable but not in the least bit stylish or trendy shoes that I wear all winter and on cold, wet days otherwise. Definitely not making a fashion statement here but I found the other pretty shoes, even if they fit nicely, tended to wreak havoc with my leg and ankle bones/muscles and I much prefer making my life as pain free as possible these days. So, I definitely can understand your choices -also the bits of frustration at what these kind of shoes don't do for an outfit. The purse though - should really jazz anything up!
yay - so glad you'll get to go and meet up with Cheese and pals... I'm green with envy
I wonder if you can get shoes that will match the purse? We might have to go on another shopping spree, lol.
I looked up that Festival schedule. Looks awesome.
Oh bless your heart! LOVE the fun, kicky purse! And maybe I'll get to pass the peace with you in Minneapolis (is that where you're headed?)
PB, Yep yep yep! :-)
some year I am gonna get to the Festival of the Homies... some year... sigh.
You TOTALLY rock in that purse. As for the shoes. Eh. I'm a Birkie girl and (as my teens point out) I seem to gravitate towards shoes that are not kickin'.
Except last Sunday when I preached. I wore my kickin' shoes. Must blog them. They are SOooo cute.
HAVE FUN and give all the Revgals a howdy from me!
