More on the "Feminized Church"

"We’ve simply replaced the mythopoetic 'Iron John' with a mythic 'Iron Jesus.' But young men don’t need a Jesus who strolls like the Duke, squints like Eastwood, and snarls like Rumsfeld. They don't need Jesus the wrestler or Jesus the warrior. They just need Jesus the Savior."

As someone who let off a whole lot of steam about this subject, on this very blog, may I suggest some interesting reading at the Evangelical Outpost, "Iron Jesus and the Masculinized Church." The quote above is just a small sample from this excellent post.

HUH! (Said in a deep voice with my fist pumping the air.)

Thanks, but I didn't do it. Well, I did some tweaking of a few things like color of some of the links, but I am technologically challenged. You can take a look at some new Blogger templates.

I like the clean look of this one, and the summery colors. When snow flies and winds blow and the sky is grey, I'll just log on and think of sumertime. :-)

Agreed 110%, and it's not just the evangelicals. Women as lectors, EM's, and altar servers routinely get blamed for the lack of vocations. Funny I've seen the same "logic" as to college admissions and graduations--that we're forcing men out.

"Women...get blamed for the lack of vocations." That doesn't make sense, does it? I didn't know this, and I am sorry to hear it.
So Catholics are feminized too, eh?

Yuck.

Yeah, sadly. I've heard Christians in other countries aren't as extreme as they are over here. Here's hoping things go back to something resembling a center soon...

I'm still waiting for the group forehead smack when they suddenly realize a whole bunch of women gathered in one place will draw men in by itself. For proof, I refer you to 'Ladies Night' promotions held at the bars near me. even the idea that women will be there, and the men all shiver with antici.........................pation.

Put me in charge of advertising, I'll get any groups you want in there.

The theology of "Iron Jesus" is diametrically opposed to the theology of the Cross...the concept that God comes to us in weakness, humility and defeat, and that when Jesus says, "Take up your cross and follow me," he means it. Maybe that's why Iron Jesus is so popular, and the theology of the Cross is so unpopular?
